The Team

Judge Anderson was elected to the General Sessions Criminal Court bench in Shelby County in August, 2010.  Prior to that, he was in the private practice of criminal defense law for 27 years with his practice covering criminal matters in County, Juvenile, State and Federal Courts both in Tennessee and other jurisdictions.  He is a past president of the Memphis Trial Lawyer’s Association and past president of the Criminal Law section of the Memphis Bar Association.  He has also been actively involved in the High School Mock Trial program in Tennessee for the past 25 years.

In June, 2011, at the request of Congressman Steve Cohen’s Office, Judge Anderson, a group of dedicated service providers and volunteers began preparations to open the first Veterans Court in Tennessee; dedicated to helping veterans with issues in the Shelby County criminal justice system. The Court began operating in July, 2012, and has already graduated about 28 successful participants, to date from the year long program. To date it is estimated that this program has saved Shelby County tax payers in excess of $500,000 in jail incarceration fees alone.
